Health & Safety (CSCS) Training
Anyone applying for the green CSCS card (labourers) will be required to complete the BTEC Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.
There is one mandatory unit that will ensure you have a basic knowledge of health and safety, working practices, relevant legal regulations and the responsibilities of all persons on a construction site.

Why do I need the Level 1 Award?
From 1st July 2014 the green Construction Site Operative (CSO) card is no longer being issued. There is a new green CSCS card, only available for people working in labouring occupations.
The CSCS role is to provide a scheme for the construction industry that confirms site workers’ training and qualifications. Many site workers who are carrying out skilled occupations have been applying for the green CSO card as the easiest route to gain access to construction sites. This makes it difficult for contractors to use CSCS cards as a reliable method of checking that site workers have the appropriate skills.
Gaining this qualification will enable you to apply for the green CSCS card and is certified by Pearson Edexcel.
To complete the qualification, you will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of:
- The principles of risk assessments
- Safe manual handling
- Working safely at height
- Risks to health within a construction environment
- Working around plant and equipment safely
Our Edexcel Level 1 Award, unlike similar qualifications, does not expiry after 5 years. This means when you need to renew your CSCS card, you will be able to sit the exam and apply for the card. Other routes require you to complete the additional course again, which means more cost to you.
